FAQ
Questions owners ask
How much does it cost?
$179 a month with 400 minutes included, and setup is included. Each extra minute is $0.30. Month to month, cancel anytime. Custom setups, such as for clinics and law firms, are quoted to fit.
Do I need a new phone number?
No. You set up call forwarding on the number you have, and we show you how.
Does it speak Cantonese?
Not yet. Desk speaks English, Mandarin and Spanish.
Can it take food orders?
Yes. We can build an ordering system for your restaurant now, quoted separately, and phone ordering by the AI receptionist is coming soon, starting with pickup orders paid at the store.
Can clinics and law firms use it?
Yes. Fields that need extra care can go custom: more of your material for Desk to work from and stricter limits, priced to fit. Desk doesn’t answer questions about symptoms, medication or legal advice; it passes those to you.
Do callers know it’s AI?
Yes. Every call opens by saying it’s an AI assistant and that the call is transcribed.
What if it can’t help a caller?
It follows the mode you picked: it transfers the call to your phone, or takes the details and tells you right away.
Can I choose what it won’t answer?
Yes. List “Topics Desk won’t answer” in your console settings, such as menu prices, catering, allergies or complaints. When a caller brings one up, Desk doesn’t answer it itself: it transfers the call to you or takes a message.
How will I hear about calls?
When a call ends, the summary goes to your email or Slack and any booking lands in your booking calendar. Text alerts start once texting registration is approved. A weekly summary arrives Monday morning.
Do bookings go into a calendar?
Yes. Bookings go straight into Desk’s booking calendar, which you can see in your console. Syncing to Google Calendar or another calendar can be built as a custom add-on.
How many calls can it take at once?
Two at a time per business by default. We can raise that if you need more.
What if my hours or menu change?
Change them yourself in the console settings, or text or WeChat us and we’ll update them.
Can it text my callers?
Yes. If a caller says yes on the call, Desk sends one confirmation text afterwards. Your number needs carrier registration for texting first, and we handle it for you.
Is there a contract?
No. You pay month to month and can cancel anytime.
How does it compare with a live answering service?
A live answering service puts a person on your line. Desk answers the calls you forward to it on its own, in English, Mandarin or Spanish, and passes the call to you or takes a note when it is unsure. The comparison guide below sets the two side by side on cost, languages and handoff.
What kinds of businesses is it for?
Any business whose phone rings while everyone is busy: restaurants, salons, home services, real estate, law and accounting offices, clinics and dental offices.
